South Endzone Kum & Go? Hell Yes.

Posted by Colestal on August 20th, 2005

The new Kinnick renovation is God’s gift to all Iowa fans, but they missed a big opportunity during the process. What Kinnick really needs is a Kum & Go.

Bill Krause, a 1957 graduate of Iowa, is the founder and CEO of the company that owns the Kum & Go convenience stores. All three of Bill Krause’s kids graduated from Iowa, and his granddaughter A.J. is now a sophomore at Iowa. Last year, the Krause family donated $5 million to the renovation project. That donation alone covered half of the $10 million in private funds that the UI Foundation was trying to raise and matches the largest private donation ever given to the University of Iowa. Seriously, how much does the guy have to give to get a Kum & Go installed in Kinnick Stadium?

This is a beautiful sight:

Kinnick Kum & Go

A Kum & Go in the new south endzone would be a huge hit with the fans. Beer, smokes, hot dogs, you name it, all available in the south endzone at everyday low Kum & Go prices. The two Burlington Street Kum & Go’s are busy on gamedays, but that would be nothing compared to the swarm of drunks at the south endzone store. And yes, beer would still be sold by the case.

As a loyal Hawkeye fan, you are probably asking yourself what you can do to put your money in the pockets of Bill Krause after his massive donation to our beloved Kinnick Stadium. You can start by shelling out $2.50 a gallon to fill up your tank. With over 420 Kum & Go stores throughout the midwest, you should never need to fill up anywhere else. And if you’re really feeling generous, pump some more gas on to the ground or indulge in some of Kum & Go’s tasty gas station food.

Buying drinks for A.J. Krause, a poor college student, also seems like a generous deed. Not so fast there, big spender. A.J. is still underage, and you wouldn’t want the paddy picking you up for providing booze to a minor. The trick is to, by some coincidence, order her favorite drink, and mistakenly leave it in her general direction. It’s not your fault that your drunk ass lost your drink and she happened to find it.

Now let’s get to work on talking to the Board of Regents about getting a Kum & Go put in by the time the renovation is complete.

What the hell is it with Kum and Go? They have been steadily taking over the convenient store scene.

I’m not objecting to it being Kum and Go, though. They have helped the Drake Relays ’sell out’ seating for the past few years… When there are several thousand tickets left, by mid-afternoon, Kum and Go buys the remaining tickets up, for a few plugs by the announcer.

Although, I’m sure it will be a positive addition, hopefully we won’t have to hear TOO much of their advertising at Kinnick.

As a loyal Hawkeye fan, I am asking myself why a pro-Hawkeye site is making light of one of Iowa’s major athletic contributers.

With shit like this, I’m sure your site will be a huge hit….

That’s why I made a point of saying that Kum & Go is one of Iowa’s major atheltic contributors.

It’s called irony, Rick. How ironic is it that the Krause family gives so much to the university, yet gets so little in return? They even tried removing the alcohol from their Kinnick suite last year, even after they were granted special written permission by President Skorton to have it.

The point of the article, other than to entertain, is to make Hawkeye fans realize how generous the Krause family really is. Granted, it takes things to an extreme, but the point is pretty simple: Be thankful for the Krause family’s generous contributions, and give back what you can. But I guess you didn’t see it that way.

Thanks for reading my “shit”, Rick.

As for my post, it was meant to show that Kum & Go is a good choice because it has become so big. If the company is willing to support the Drake Relays the way it has, imagine what it will do for the University of Iowa.
