i’ve thought about it andyram and you’re right. but i do have to say from what i’ve read on your site that you guys don’t like cyclones responding. obviously i’m a clone fan. i guess the main reason i posted what i did was because of the post about jack trice. nobody can argue that the big 10 has proved itself to be strong, but talking smack on a man who meant a lot to isu and died doing what he loved… it’s just wrong. i just wanted to let you know that a lot of the stuff on here is funny, but that was crossing the line.

The article on Jack Trice crossed the line. I realize this site is designed to smite Clone fans, but disrespecting a dead man of good character is as low as abusing women and children. The Trice comments show GREAT IGNORANCE and it speaks volumes about your (lack of) knowledge of Jack Trice and the circumstances that he faced just attending college. Unlike most of the rich, white, spoiled, doughy-assed freshman that enter the U of I every year, Trice endured hardships and major prejudice unimagineable to most people today. Kinnick never faced harsh poverty or vile prejudice. Kinnick was excellent and died honorably for his country. Trice didn’t get the opportunity to finish ONE football game because he was trampled to death because he was black player. The author thinks that he is humorous but it just shows unparalleled ignorance that Iowa fans have become rightfully famous for. Congratulations on the balls to show the whole world how class-less you are.

Okay, I’m going to sort this out in a somewhat level-headed way. First, this site is not designed to “smite Clone fans”. It is an “entertianment site” designed to “irrationally and maniacally support the Iowa Hawkeyes”. Our mission is to entertain Hawk fans, and we end up pissing off a fair amount of Cyclone fans that choose to read the content. It’s not written for you, and you shouldn’t read it. You’re never going to like what we have to say. Second, Andyram had ample knowledge of both the history of Jack Trice and the consequences of writing the article. To be fair, before the article started, he stated: “ISU fans, you might not want to read this one… Seriously, I am sure this will offend you.” Andyram hates Iowa State on a higher level than terrorists and Nazis, and he really doesn’t give a damn if he righteously pisses a lot of people off. The article did have a point, but it’s unlikely that many ISU fans could see through their cloud of rage to understand it. We idolize a Heisman Trophy winner, and Iowa State idolizes a failure (in a football sense). Obviously that’s looking at it from a very abstract perspective, and it totally disregards any shred of human dignity. However, for better or worse, it is a unique and unprecedented approach to the situation. Take it for what it’s worth.
Now for an administrative follow-up (Cycolt and Thread JACK): We don’t delete comments unless they are so belligerant and useless that they take away from the discussion. Cycolt’s comments really had nothing to do with the article and were basically just flaming directed at me for whatever reason. They certainly didn’t add to the post, so they were deleted. Colestal- you’re obviously a thoughtful and responsible person given your posts. On with my point-regardless of the author’s intended audience, Cyclone fans do and will continue to read your articles because they are controversial. That’s just the nature of the beast. If you tell someone not to read something, they will definetly read it. You claim “andyram” knows the history of JT and the consequences of writing the material. I don’t think he knows as much as he’s telling you he does. Although I disagree with the definition of failure in terms of football players, I would not disgrace the name or reputation of NK for a laugh. JT is honored as person who was a pioneer and person who left this world too early. JT could never be labled a failure because he never finished one game as he sustained terminal injuries. JT was never afforded the basic preresequite to obtain fame and notoriety: being alive. If NK would have died his freshman year in college, would he go on to win the Heisman or become a hero of his service to our country? These two players each contribute uniquely to the heritage of each school. NK is as a football legend who died in service to his country. JT was a legend pioneer who advanced against all odds to pursue a dream, only to have it doused by Minnesota’s KKK Gopher team. It’s not a unique or abstract approach but one that shows a lack of morality and a respect for basic human dignity. Take it or leave it.
We know very well that Cyclone fans are going to keep reading what we write, at least if it has anything to do with Iowa State. They just need to understand that there will never be anything good said about them. They’re really fighting an uphill battle, and it’s probably not worth their time. Andyram definitely knows his history–if there’s one thing he knows, it’s football. Jack Trice is most definitely a failure in terms of his football career. Ki-Jana Carter had his NFL career cut short by injuries, and he is widely regarded as a failure. The same goes for Jack Trice in terms of his football career. In terms of advancing civil rights, it’s tough to argue that he failed. The article was written strictly from a football standpoint, and it clearly disregards human dignity and respect. What supercedes the argument is that Andyram, simply put, does not give a damn. The article is unique and unprecedented, albeit offensive, simply because you’ve never seen the respective schools’ idols compared in such a way before. There’s really not much more to it than that.
Based on your premise, the two are incomparable on the field. As i stated before, JT died from injuries during his first game during a malicious attack based on bigotry unlike the career of Ki Jana Carter. The difference is KJC suffered CAREER ending injuries, and JT suffered LIFE ending injuries at the hands of his opponents. I’ll propose something. If you think KN is so damn tough then while wasn’t he able to survive a plane crach in the ocean and swim the hundreds of miles to safety? As pilot and a serviceman he was a giant failure because he died. He wasn’t even killed in battle. His plane went down in the Carribean. Was this where all of the Heisman trophy winners were stationed in WWII? The Carribean? Do see my point? One failed after college and one failed during college. To stay alive. Either one of these men are courageous and deserve our utmost respect. Comparing the schools idols fairly would a better approach to stating your opinion that displays the process of rational thought.

I am honestly shocked that Kinnick was killed by something as small as a plane crash. He made it through years of Big Ten defenses alive, so you would think that a plane crash would barely phase him.
