Daily commentary: Feb. 10

Posted by Mikehawk on February 10th, 2006

Well folks, it’s February 10 and the Iowa Hawkeyes are still in first place. If you would have asked 80 percent of Iowa fans at the beginning of the season if this scenario was going to be true, I think they would have laughed your ass all the way back to Hawkize.com.

Thank God, though, those fans don’t determine the outcome of the games.

Those guys that do, though, have been doing one hell of a job. This team, even fresh from a loss at Northwestern, is a lot different than past years’ Hawkeye teams. Why, you ask? We have the same starting five as we ended last year with- shouldn’t this be the same team that continually pissed games down their leg last year and took an early exit from the NCAA’s in Indy?

Nope- these guys are really, really pissed off.

They’re out to prove something, it seems- maybe to give the proverbial middle finger to the entire state that abandoned them for the last four years, or maybe just for their own egos. We won’t know- but we don’t care, either. Take it from the guys who have been here the entire time - myself, Colestal, and Andyram- this post-season is going to be so sweet it’s going to give us cavaties.

A few other things…

–The Newest RPI rankings are out. Iowa sits at #8, while Iowa State…shit, let me scroll down…scrolling…scrolling..oh, there they are! ISU is nuzzled in between Kansas and South Carolina at a lowly #62, according to CBS.

Iowa State lost to Kansas State and now has a 4-5 record in the worst major conference in basketball. I bet they’re glad everyone was “expecting them to do big things.”

–ISU Coach Wayne Morgan was recently asked how he felt about his old television show Family Matters going back into syndication. He declined comment.

UNI won a barn-burner over Wichita State. Wow, that was a shocker.

Drake sucks. Tom Davis, come home- there’s an office job here with a lot less stress.

Iowa recently signed its 2006 football recruiting class, which includes no Iowans. Because of this, Andyram will be trying out at corner. He vows not to leave a 10 yard cushion on every FUCKING PLAY.

Iowa State signed its 2006 recruiting class. We tried to go to Walgreens to get them cards that said “Our Sympathies,” but we couldn’t find that many. The Cyclones reportedly signed 720 kids to their squad. 630 of them have already been suspended or kicked off the team for fighting at club element.

This article is pretty intertaing in that it states the main facts that iowa is doing better again even though iowa state beat us Iowa state will be privlieged to go to the NIT tourny and yes the big 12 conf. is not hard at all whos the big player Texas thats it all the others are just there.

Did the Vandervelde kid from Davenport, IA pick another school or has he just not signed with the Hawks?

Pretty good article, I don’t understand why you have to hate on Norm Parker’s defense, it has after all won many games for us the past few years.

But you need to change gameplans. Otherwise the opponents will know what your doing. As in the case with Iowa state (fuckers that can SUCK IT) they knew what defence we had and exploited it.

Vandervelde is grey shirting. Meaning he is not coming to Iowa until second semester next year on scholarship. Therefore his freshman year will not start until the year after. I like it, it will put more space between him and the great class from last year.

iowa engineer…our defense did not lose us that game, it was our offense and turnovers.
