Daily commentary: Feb. 11

Posted by Mikehawk on February 11th, 2006

I wrote yesterday about the Iowa basketball team being a pissed off group who was out to prove something.

Today, in Bloomington, they proved that they are nothing short of a diesel-powered engine of force that will be driving deep into the NCAA tournament. But guess what?

If you don’t have season tickets, you’re not invited.

I came up with this rule about 13 seconds ago, so let me roll with it. If you wern’t down from day one- don’t you dare make the trip to watch these guys play. They don’t need to prove anything to you, and if you’re still going to call for Alford’s head after every loss, you can go fuck yourselves. The boo-birds and the nay-sayers were out en masse after Wednesday’s collapse at Northwestern- you could read their pimply faces from down the hall– “Fuck Alford! This sucks! I’m goin to the bars!” as they left their dorm rooms pouty.

Good riddance, assholes. Those of us that have believed in this team, this university, and this coach from day one don’t have room for you right now. We’re not riding a bandwagon- we’re in an escalade (rebuilt by Erek Hansen) riding with our team to the NCAA tournament, possibly with a 2-4 seed. Turn in your Hawkeye clothing at the door- you’re out.

With that being said, let me catch you up on the action from today:

Michigan State gets anally assaulted by lowly Minnesota, which also puts them another game out of the Big 10 race. They travel to Iowa on Tuesday to have their orifice exercised again- hopefully Tom Izzo makes it out of Carver Hawkeye with his face in tact(his dignity with be long, long gone.)

Michigan got WORKED by Purdue, proving that the “most athletic” team in the Big 10 could use a few boosters throwing some recruits their way if they ever want to return to the glory days.

Iowa State got rolled by Kansas, which makes my heart gleam with excitement. I find it funny that the “best backcourt in the nation” can’t muster up the strength to go above .500 in the first 10 games of the crappiest big conference in America. No one was expecting you to go to the NCAA tournament..you won’t.

The Iowa Track and Field team continues to roll. No real message here, we just really kick ass.

The Updated Big 10 standings..
Iowa 8-3 19-6
Illinois 6-3 20-3
Ohio State 6-3 17-3
Wisconsin 7-4 17-7
Michigan State 6-4 18-6
Michigan 6-5 16-6
Indiana 5-5 13-8
Northwestern 4-6 12-10
Minnesota 3-7 12-9
Penn State 3-8 11-11
Purdue 3-9 9-14

On Iowa- Go Hawks.

Thank you for calling out those that are fans as long as the wind is blowing in the right direction. I get so fucking sick of the people that refuse to go to the games because they don’t like alford or they didn’t like Pierre. Those guys are 2 of the approximately 20-30 people involved with the basketball program. Guys like Horner and Bru should never have played for anything but a packed arena for the last 4 years. And now that they are winning again, people can’t wait to get to CHA. And while I’m venting, although I don’t think it pertains to any of the visitors of this site, I think when Carver gets new seats they should put seat belts in the chairs so all the old farts can’t leave with 8 minutes left in the game “to beat traffic”. If traffic is that bad, stay home and watch it from your Lay-z-boy, and let someone who will stay and cheer have your seats! With that said, GO HAWKS!
