What a Mess

Posted by Colestal on March 18th, 2006

Now that the effects of a night of heavy drinking are wearing off and reality is starting to set in, I need to find something to cheer myself and other Hawk fans up. As always, we can look no further than those misfits at Iowa State. As you probably know by now, the Clowns are in the midst of running their basketball program in to the ground (again).

Before the basketball season, I mocked Iowa State’s “I WILL” ad campaign and made a Wayne Morgan banner that said he would fail miserably. As it turns out, I couldn’t have been more right.

The banner reads:

My predecessors partied with college students
And downloaded lots of kiddie porn.
Everyone is expecting me to fail miserably.
I WILL

As much as I hate to have to live with this loss, I’ll take that any day over having to live with calling myself a Cyclone.

“It is better to have failed and be a Hawkeye than to have ever been a Cyclone.”

Don’t ever forget it.

Thank you for making my day a little bit better. All I have to do is wonder about the clowns and the shit there in and I say, “Thank GOD I am a Hawkeye.” Will be and shall always be a Hawkeye till the day I die.

    Thanks.

  2. 2 Steve Alfraud

Yeah, at least our AD has the ballz to fire a worthless hack, whereas Iowa has put up with SA’s “next level” for seven years. Kudos to Iowa on that. It took a new AD that takes no shit to see WM is giant failure, but at least he did SOMETHING about a loser. Just be glad SA is leaving because he has a lifetime contract with Bowlsby.

    A Message to Steve Alford,
One… One NCAA tournament win in 7 years. One. One mother F’ing game. (And you say he’s a better coach than Dr. Tom)A 3 seed team, 3 fucking seed team and you lose to who? Who are they again? They don’t even deserve to be called by their name. A 14 FUCKING SEED TEAM! Go HOME Alford! Everyone knows Iowa is just a temporary job until you get to go back to your Alma Mater. Now? Indiana won’t take you as a coach, but maybe you would be happier mopping the floors of their worthless court than making a team on ours. I hope you’re happy.
    Sincerely,
    Pissed of Hawkeye, L McP
    To everyone else:
Be pissed at this letter if you wish, but I hate Alford and his Indiana-loving ass. They can have him.

Congratulations to Iowa’s 5 All-American wrestlers in this year’s NCAA tournament. Gable would never have stood for a 4th place finish, but we far out-performed our pre-tournament ranking. Also, that treacherous bastard Steve Mocco lost his championship match. Another win for Hawkeye wrestling fans.

  5. 5 iowaengineer

For L McP, I agree with your fustration. But, I would rather have Alford with us than Alford beating us at Indiana.

  6. 6 Oskee-wow-wow

Since the Illini swallowed their own dick yesterday I don’t have much room to talk shit but I will say this … Bradley is in the Sweet 16. That requires two tourney wins in a row and two tourney wins is DOUBLE the tourney wins from Iowa IN THE LAST SEVEN YEARS!

  7. 7 L McP

Yes, but I don’t think Indiana is dumb enough to pick up Alford now. So, that’s not something we would have to worry about. Best case senario: We get a coach better than Alford and whoop Indiana’s ass every game for the next 10 years or so. Maybe we’ll win some tournament games too.

  8. 8 iowaengineer

YES YES YES, I am happy to say that Ohio State has finally sucked its own dick. I am happy that not a single big ten team made it to the sweet 16. Next year I guess will be a better year.

  9. 9 northiowan

U blame alford for everything it aint his fault that the team didnt play. He has some responsiblity but the team has to win. When ur not playin as a team ur goin to lose. The coach tried to get them there but then they fell apart. So yes alford as some falut in the games lost but only very little

  10. 10 kirkwoodhawk

I’ll say this much….seeing Jeff’s interview after the game and watching him tear up was enough to get me started crying. It sucks bad to watch him end his amazing career like it did.

  11. 11 L McP

A coach has to be in the game mentally before his players can be. The only reason they did as well as they did this season is because of all the senior leadership. However, they couldn’t do everything. Not having a coach back you 100% drains on a team mentally, I know I’ve been there. If you blame it all on the players, then why even have a coach in the first place? Anything else that was lacking I blame on Alford.

  12. 12 ZoundBrigade

As much as I hate to say it, it looks like the Big 10 was just a bunch of mediocre teams and not a bunch of good teams that beat each other up. I dont think there is anyway around this - the Big 10 totally out of the tournament with not one team in the Sweet 16. Oh well, we had two of the final four last year - but then what the hell was wrong with MSU this year?! I dont get this fucking tournament/sport. Where the hell is the football season?

  13. 13 BigHawk

To NorthIowan: I do not think that you realized that Alford did not call ONE fucking timeout during the TWO 14-0 runs. Okay, you have to get ur team together, switch up the defense…stop momentum do fucking something….that is the poorest fucking coaching performace and preperation I have EVER seen in a basketball game…my god…that is just scary that he didn’t have the mental capability to call one time out…im sick..sick to my fucking stomach….my fucking god we lost to fucking northfucking western fucking state…im so fucking pissed….by the way..dont hold expectations to high for 2006 football cuz 2007 is our year…it will be our best chance to win a nationalchampionship…you ask why? well here it is…and im going to be honest, we dont play ohio st. or michigan that year…and all our quality recruits are going to be mature and ready. ON HAWKS
    Big HAwk

  14. 14 ..!..

Good call on the Big 10 picks. Yep, they sure were the best basketball conference this year, huh? Iowa going all the way? They couldn’t even beat Northwestern State (how much did NW State lose to WVU by in the 2nd round?) Michigan State losing to George Mason?! Ohio State taken down by Georgetown?? I don’t even know where those teams are from. Arizona just slaughtered Wisconsin. And Washington beating Illinois… most people saw Utah State beating Washington yet Illinois couldn’t even do it. You guys might as well merge into the Big 12… or are you afraid of amazing teams like Iowa State, Nebraska and Texas A&M beating you?

  15. 15 zhawk

big ten would’ve cleaned up if they didn’t kill each other the week before in the big ten tourney. my vote goes to drop that. so we are a 4 seed then instead of a 3. big whoop. no other teams had to face such fierce competition the week before the tourney. sure there were other tourneys, but none with as much brutality as the big ten.

  16. 16 ClownHater

To all the ISU fans that wrote on this… I don’t see anything that says we’re queer and we’re here so get out. You people are pathetic. Plus ABC called Wayne Morgan’s got a new job he’ll be fine they’re starting Family Matter’s 2, and once Blalock don’t make it in the NBA maybe Morgan will get him the part of Eddy. Then in the fall when Stinson gets cut by the NBA team that picked up his pathetic ass he’ll trade in his KoTex head band for some suspenders and give Urkel a shot.
    Clownhater

  17. 17 Mikehawk

Did you just say amazing teams like Iowa State, Nebraska, and aTm? I want what you’re smoking, man.

  18. 18 whos cy

So amazing that they didn’t get invited to the tourny??? Frankly, I’d rather get invited to the tourny and then get beat out the first round then not make it @ all. But I guess that’s my personal opinion..

  19. 19 Hawk for life

I believe ISU didn’t even get an invite to the NIT (Not Important Tourney), not even that important.

  20. 20 L McP

Yes, Iowa State fans, we shit that game down our leg. Coaching or player’s fault, it happened. However, it was an NCAA tournament game. You didn’t even have the chance to shit your first round tourney game (NIT or NCAA)down your leg because you didn’t get invited. It proves true ignorance and stupidity for an ISU fan/athlete/student to utter a word about the Hawks in the presence of one, let alone a webpage dedicated to them. Although, I guess ignorance and stupidity is what truly distinguishes a Cyclone.

  21. 21 Ridiculous Nicholas

I think L McP’s first post to Alford pretty much sums it up. And as much as I hate to say it, Steve Alfraud’s first post hits the nail on the head. We got rid of Dr. Tom so we could “take it to the next level” Alford hasn’t taken anything to the next level, except his ego. Dr. Tom was a much better coach.

While Alford is head coach I don’t think the Iowa basketball team is worth talking about. Why don’t we instead talk about the Iowa Wrestling team. A team so great that many fans find it unacceptable when we get 4th place. Luckily we don’t hold the basketball team to such hih standards. They aren’t capable of it. I agree with Boilerhawk, I’m glad Steve Mocco lost

  22. 22 boilerhawks

    ALRIGHT, ENOUGH.
I’ve spent the last two years getting my Master’s here at Purdue and all I listen to is the damn fairweather Boilermaker fans bitching and moaning about how shitty their sports teams are, how they never live up to expectations, and I’ve watched them one by one tear up their season tickets and stop going. At the beginning of the season all the talk was about Purdue going to the Rose Bowl. By the end they were calling for Tiller’s Head. I’ve always been able to hold my head up as an Iowa alumn and say that’s not how Hawkeye fans are. We bleed black and gold. Even if our black-and-gold-blood pumping hearts are broken by shitty referees in the Outback Bowl, or bullshit half-court shots by Wisconsin in the Big Ten tournament, or when a 9 year streak of NCAA wrestling championships come to a tragic end, we are still there, still proud, and still hopeful for our next class of Hawkeye atheletes. Even if our team is last in the Big Ten or first in the nation, we are still draw huge crowds to the hallowed halls of Carver and Kinnick. So where is all this negativity coming from? So what is all this bullshit about Alford? What’s all this about a disappointing season? We were UNDEFEATED at home. Big Ten Tournament Champions. Counting the tournament, we won the same number of games in the Big Ten as Ohio State, WHO NEVER BEAT US this season. Greg Brunner on the First Team All Big Ten. We lost one game and people are turning 180 degrees. Let other teams’ jealous fans make fun of us, but we should be proud of what our team did this season overall. Wait and see what happens with Alford, but if he’s our coach next year, this is one Hawkeye who will still support our coach, still support our players, and still support our team. If you’re that disatisfied with the Hawkeyes, there are plenty of empty seats in Ross-Ade Stadium and Mackey Arena. Start making fun of ISU fans and stop sounding like them. On Iowa, Go Hawks!

  23. 23 iowaengineer

    Thats right.. GO HAWKS

  24. 24 Anonymous

    ESPN Article.

“Iowa Kirk Ferentz is seven years into his career as Iowa’s head coach with a contract that runs through 2012, but his return for this season was anything but a certainty when as many as eight NFL head coaching jobs were vacant after the bowl season. Ferentz, who’s rumored every year to be headed for the pros, is back for the start of spring practice March 22 with a team that could contend for the Big Ten title. Three of the four teams to defeat Iowa in the 2005 regular season must play at Kinnick Stadium this season.”

    Eat it bitches.

  25. 25 L McP

Boilerhawks- I love my Hawkeyes and everything about them, but I hate being disgraced by a bad coach. We don’t deserve the bullshit. The difference between Ferentz and Alford? (besides the obvious) Ferentz put a squash to the rumors. Alford didn’t. Which team did better after regular season play? Think about it.

  26. 26 Oskee-wow-wow

Iowa fans have many things to be thankful for. First, you beat Illinois, which you have only done 3 times in the last six years. Of course, you lost at The Hall, but so has all but four of the last 100 teams — thats right, bitches, 96-4 last 100 home games.
Iowa won 25 games, an extreme rarity. They almost won the Big Ten title, which last happened before 95% of you were born (it was so long ago that my 39-year old ass was in 8th grade). They did it all with mostly home-grown talent and they did it with a coach nobody else wants.
And they went undefeated at home in one of the worst gyms in the country for basketball (because the sound rises straight up — the old Field House was 3x as loud).
All in all a great season for Iowa. I understand why you want Steve “Don’t muss with the ‘do’” Alford’s head, but don’t let that take away from a season better than almost all of you have ever experienced.

  27. 27 L McP

    Wow.
    http://sports.espn.go.com/ncb/news/story?id=2378077
What was he thinking? At least we know that the Hawks are looking for a new coach too.

  28. 28 L McP

oh wait, nvm on the hawks looking for a new coach.. the interview was in iowa city. my bad.

  29. 29 Durka Durka

So, I S(uck)U(nderwear) thinks it has the upper edge on Iowa for getting McDermott to coach their beleaguered team. They’ll learn when he can’t do for them any better than he did with a top rate UNI team.
Lose in the first round as he has for the past three years. This should have been his best of best, but he just couldn’t do it. Sound familiar? Why would we want him at Carver? Get a clue, the only losers in this deal are the taxpayers of Iowa, who just quadrupled “Little Mac’s” salary

  30. 30 Anonymous

I detect jealousy here- just a few days ago hawk fans everywhere were boasting that McDermmitt would never coach at ISU b/c Iowa is where he wanted to go. Well, I guess things never change. Iowa fans are not only dilusional and arrogant, they are also self preserving.

  31. 31 Mikehawk

We don’t want Mac’s stanky ass in Iowa City. At least OUR coach has won ONE first round game…

    Mac? Not so much.

  32. 32 Anonymous

    Spin it however you like…..

  33. 33 Mikehawk

It’s not spin, it’s facts. Mac is a likeable guy and that’s fine- but you can have him and his mid-major, die down the stretch teams who have NEVER won an NCAA tournament game. It’ll fit your expectations well.

  34. 34 Anonymous

It’s not like he lost to Northwestern State, but to Georgetown who is in the sweet 16. It may be fact about his NCAA loss record, but how many times has SA or WM led their teams to 3 consecutive NCAA berths? How many NCAA wins for Alfie in SEVEN years. By all accounts Alfie has set such high expectaions based on his high performance, now thats a laugh.

  35. 35 Anonymous

wait wait wait, where the fuck do you get the name Alfie?

  36. 36 Mikehawk

Go back to your hole. Alford > McDermott

  37. 37 Reece

Looks like Alford won’t be going to Indiana.

    http://sports.espn.go.com/ncb/news/story?id=2379069

  38. 38 iowaengineer

hey anonymous, why do you write a poem about how shitty your Basketball & Football teams are, and then not attribute it to yourself…. And if you don’t get this… well we know who’s smarter.
    go hawks

  39. 39 Ridiculous Nicholas

yah alford is definately gone now. Anyone who did like him probably won’t anymore, now that he is talking to other schools. I wonder if its too late to get dr tom back?

  40. 40 Durka Durka

If Alford leaves, so be it. I really don’t have a love for him, but as far as coaches go, he is a decent one. If he goes, then we’ll take our time to find a qualified replacement. I’m sure we won’t jump on the first coach that we interveiw! Oh’ wait ISU did talk to TWO possible replacements. But then again they didn’t want to get caught with their pants down like when they fired Eustachy. They had to give the job to Morgan, because no one else wanted it!!

  41. 41 hocksman

I don’t care who Missouri takes to coach them, but the thought of Alfraud even interviewing for another job while he is set to make a base salary of $800,000 through 09 just pisses me off. He wants to leave now because if he sticks around everyone will see how good our Seniors made him look this year. Anytime a coach interviews for another job while still under contract is a kick in the nuts to whom is signing his pay check. In case he has forgotten we are the only place that has ever paid him anywhere near this kind of money (and that includes his short nba career. And shame on you Bolsby. You don’t have to grant another university permission to talk to him, you can deny them permission. (not a hater, just a little discussed by the way a contract really doesn’t mean shit anymore.)

  42. 42 Durka Durka

His contract ended this year! He’s free to talk to anyone without permission.

  43. 43 Colestal

Alford is under contract until 2009, so schools do have to ask permission to speak with him.

  44. 44 Mikehawk

Not during the last two years of his contract, I believe, Cole.

  45. 45 northiowan

are u guys moron. U guys are iowa fans. U still dis them. So ur not loyal iowa fans. U can say ur are but ur not. Stay off this board cuz all u do is bitch cuz everything is not right. Well live with it. Iowa got screwd in football but still belive in this alford wants to win and with only one season of his 7 under .500 and u still bitch about the 25 wins we had this season. The dice never roll how u want.

  46. 46 L McP

We have high expectations for our Hawkeyes. We only want the best. Deal with it.

  47. 47 True Hawk Fan

northiowan…you make everyone from northern iowa look like a complete moron. shut the fuck up, go to Iowa City and drown yourself in the god damned iowa river you worthless piece of shit.
