Oh, wait, he’s been our coach all along? Why, by watching ESPN, you’d have thought that he was gone a month ago. Too bad for the naysayers, Coach Alford is staying.

The morons who hate alford want too much. The team won the big ten postseason. Got 2nd regular season and went undeafted at carver hawkeye. Now give me a few good reasons to hate him. Yeah hes from Indiana. Yeah he has never got to the final four. So what there are great coaches who have never gotten to the sweet 16 and if u want a new coach we would have to break him in. So another 5 years of worthless jargen. If you were a loyal iowan you love the hawks no matter who is the coach. But if all u want to do is bitch and complain jump and cheer for Iowa State Minnesota or some other college. We dont need this bitching of u non loyal iowans

You have it all wrong northiowan. I love the hawkeyes no matter what, I’m a loyal Iowan, and I still hate Alford. And I’m not alone. Type in his name in google and 2 out of the first 3 links are about firing him. Whether you liked Dr. Tom or not, Iowa got rid of him so that “we could go to the next level” well I hate to tell you, if losing in the first round ever few years is the next level we have problems. Alford an arrogant piece of trash and he would be long gone by now, but the problem is Missouri and Indiana don’t even want him!
Well, isn’t it better to get to the ncaa tournament than not going at all or (even worse) getting to go to the nit tournament. At least you should suck it up, be a good hawkeye, and shutup.
Alford couldn’t coach his way out of a wet paper bag. He has a losing record in Big 10 play and has only won 1 game in the NCAA tourney. The fact is that we lost to Northwestern State not because we were outplayed, but rather outcoached. Alford isn’t a bad coach, there are worse coaches out there, but he isn’t great. He is a little above average at best. I hope he takes us to the second round next year!

the thought popped into my head, but the argument about not losing at home all year and winning the big ten tourney helps his case alot. i agree that losing in the first round with this team was not the way these seniors deserved to go out. hopefully they put some asterick by alford for next season so if he doesn’t do certain things he gets the can. that way it is set in stone and we don’t have all this arguing. until then i’ll stand behind him.

Indiana University is reportedly not interested in making Steve Alford their next head basketball coach. That means Iowa Fan, you might still be stuck with the guy, but ESPN.com is reporting he had a meeting scheduled with Missouri. So, you could very well be off the hook.
Like even one Iowa Fan would try to talk this guy out of leaving. Iowa Fan is probably on the phone right now with IU trying to talk them into taking Alford.
It can’t help your job prospects when you’re a 3rd seed and you lose to a 14th seed. On top of that, I’m sure last year’s first round tank job didn’t help either. I guess, what they say is true. Here is a dose or reality — IU does not want Alford because the school is trying very hard to wipe off the shit residue from the Bobby “#1 MF’R” Knight era and Stevie the Hair would just resurrect all that crap.
Truth is, Alford is (and never was) going to save Iowa. Iowa has a huge problem Hawkeye fans never seem to recognize … they are IOWA.
No matter how hard you try, you cannot move the university. The town is small, the location is bad, the weather is not the best and the tradition — oops, what tradition? — hurts, too.
Every now and then the team is going to do something that attracts honors and national notice. Again, that is EVERY NOW AND THEN.
Hawkeye fans must learn to live with it. Enjoy the successes when they come, because it is pie-in-the-sky to expect more.
It is great that the fans, alumni and students shoot for the stars. They absolutely should, but they should also not lose sight of reality.
Oskee you are an idiot. I’m not sure where you get this tradition stuff from. Iowa has always had a tough football team. And when it comes to wrestling Iowa has the biggest tradition in the NCAA. The location has nothing to do with it. North Carolina always has good basketball programs, but have you ever been to the state? It’s a complete hell hole full of ignorant hicks. What does the size of the town matter? Iowa City is full of bars and beautiful girls, more than enough to satisfy any incoming athlete.
Iowa can be a powerhouse like it is in football and wrestling, we just need the right coach.
Honestly, i agree completely with hocksman, how can you have luke recker, and reggie evans…be ranked top ten and fucking flop….how can u have a RETURNING team ..be a 3 seed and flop..how can u have a losing record in the big ten…how can u have recruits such as dewitz transfer……we need a fucking change….
Yes granted..he went undefeated at home this year…2nd in big ten…thats great awesome..wonderful…but dont u all think we should have been in the sweet 16 at least this year guys?…i mean honestly..think about it…a 3 seed not making the sweet 16 is a disapointment in my eyes..its understandable as a 10 seed or 9 or 8…but christ…a 3 seed and first round…it is just pathetic…..Iowa has become a powerhouse in football..was a powerhouse in wrestling..i will expect a change there too soon…and needs a better..more qualified..coach to take us back to the davis level and then up and above that….how can u guys defend alford..he is pathetic…..iowa sports has alot more prestige than this….we were known as the biggest upset this year in the tournament..who likes to be known as that..iowa state should be the sole owner of that talk…come on…get it together and realize what we have ..

Last year, Iowa made it to the NCAA tournament and lost in the first round. That much I was OK with. But this year, they kept all of the key players. NOBODY left last years 1st round NCAA tourney team. Since that is the case, there is an expectation that the team will do even better, and it did not.
Look i understand the fruastraion. But were all gonna have to deal with alford being the coach. U cant just pick up a new coach and go to the ncaa’s If u want alford gone fine but still it wont happen for atleast another year. Baseball seasons coming up and football will be startin so deal with alford next year. Lets look ahead to the Great football squad
alford couldnt make brunner’s free throw or block out for him so NW state couldnt get a second chance three. no way can you blame steve for the first round exit this year. he can only do so much, he led us to 25 wins, un-defeated at home! second in the big ten! (best we have finished in a long time) ANOTHER Big Ten Tourney Title. Then his players shit out on him in the final minutes of the last game of the season, not his fault. Alford led us to all those great things this season, he guided us the whole way, every game, coaches dont have “off” games like players, which then proceed to cost us the game. alford’s here to stay, the senior’s arent, so quit bitching.

oh my gosh hudhawk, thatis so hippocritical, you can’t say he led us to all those great things and not give him any of the blame for the loss. did anyone think maybe we should foul up by two with 13.4 seconds left when the other team is a poor foul shooting team in the 1and1. the worst you would have was a chance to shoot for the lead when the game was tied. even coach carl in lames would have been able to tell curtis the rucker stinson to foul. truth is we had a great group of senior leaders,an average coach, a disapointing let down in the 1st round, it happens to someone each year. I think we need to look at the bigger picture than 1 upset. It will piss me off if he doesn’t come out and say, I am not going anywhere until 09. Allowing these espn assholes to start rumors is only done for one reason. it ups your value so you will get more$

I totally second Mikehawk on the football schedule. I’d be disapointed with more than 2 losses. 7 home games, 5 road games. Road games: Syracuse, Indiana, Illinois, MICHIGAN, and a Maroney-less Minny. If that isn’t a good schedule then I dont know what is. Wisconsin, Clowns, and THE Ohio State will be the headliners at home. I already cant wait for that game. But here is a scary ass thought…Who the hell do we put on Ted Ginn??? We’re going to need some of that Kinnick mystic and aura for that game. Up the Hawkeyes.
hey always be up beat. No expected brad banks to do what he did. It was a good season. U really got to think iowa can go 11-1 and a possible 12-0. I think the team is young but what they did in the last 3 games last year is something that was excellent. Putting a hurting on mineyhaha and then goin to wisconsin on barry alverez day and winning there. And of course the screw job in fl. The team is very good

Alford is average. In the years he has been therem this supposedly going to be his best, was pretty pathedic. I dont wanna take anything away from the seniors because i think the talent was there, but Alford is a terrible coach and let them down. Iowa needs to fire him now, they have waited a long time for him to turn the program around and he cant do itm their are plenty of coaches out there who would do better.Creightons Coach?
