Special Report: Stevie Hicks’ Family Home

Posted by Colestal on April 24th, 2006

Yesterday, Yahoo! Sports broke a story about a possible scandal involving the home of former USC star Reggie Bush’s family. The story accuses an employee of a startup marketing firm–get this–Michael Michaels (his mother clearly hated him) of purchasing a $750,000 home for Bush’s family in hopes of landing him as a client. Yahoo! used public records to determine that Michaels, not Bush’s parents, owned the home. Now all hell has broken loose.

As much as the Hawkize faithful love to see USC mired in scandal, we would much rather see those bastards over at Iowa State crash and burn. We were inspired by Yahoo’s investigation, so we decided to do an investigation of our own on ISU running back Stevie Hicks.

After hours of research, we uncovered an irregularity in the housing arrangements of Steven Sr. and Denise Hicks, the parents of Stevie Hicks.

This refrigerator box, located in an Omaha, Nebraska slum, was taken from a dumpster by prospective agent Daniel Danielson in November 2005. Records at Home Depot show that the refrigerator box was discarded in November. Around that time, neighbors say Hicks’ family moved in, but they weren’t sure because crack has a way of making you forget things.

Hicks’ father, Steven Hicks, Sr. was approached outside the box on Monday, but was unable to speak coherently.

“You got any change you can spare?” Hicks said when asked about ownership of the property.

Before moving to the box in the slum, Hicks’ family lived under a bridge elsewhere in Omaha. It is widely speculated that the family made the move partially because of the upcoming winter months.

Danielson approached the Hicks family to discuss the possibility of representing Stevie sometime during the 2005 football season. The pitch was said to have been simple: Danielson offered Mr. Hicks a bottle of scotch, two 40’s of Olde English, and a carton of Omaha’s finest Newport cigarettes.

There is speculation that Stevie Hicks now endorses Maytag because of the logo that is printed on his parents’ home. The Newton based company has been “washed up” for quite some time now, and may be looking for a washed up athlete like Stevie Hicks to promote their brand.

Daniel Danielson’s fledgling company is nowhere to be found. Friends of Danielson weren’t surprised.

“The dude’s not even certified to be an agent. He barely got his GED. The only person he’s ever represented was himself in court for three outstanding DUIs. Did someone really take him seriously?” said a close friend of Danielson.

“Stevie Hicks is not the kind of guy you build a company on. Hell, you can’t even build an offense around him. Look at 2005. What, not even 600 yards rushing on the year? He barely even contributed. That guy will be lucky if he makes a Canadian football team.”

Funny how you single out the player that single-handedly tore apart the Hawkeye defense last year. Remember in the 4th quarter when he was dragging 5 Hawkeyes with him every carry for 1st downs? I do. Wait, you had probably quit watching by then. My bad.

  2. 2 Oskee-wow-wow

I love how much you guys hate each other. This is hilarious … whatever it is the Hawkize crew is smoking is clearly top-rate and I am jealous.

  3. 3 hocksman

they should also investigate that wal-mart shopping cart that ex I S Who football player jason berryman’s mother has been bootlegging 40’s, menthols, crack, and autographed mug shots of her son from. I heard that his parole officer christopher christopherson gave her in return for him continuing to live in Lames so he can keep getting paid by Mac everytime berryman fucks up

Haha, great post. Larry, I would argue Stevie had a better game against Kansas. And congrats on winning the Big 12 north the last two seasons. Ok, now your turn to fall back on last years game and try to argue that one game justifies yet another season of isu mediocrity.

  5. 5 Colestal

I would also appreciate some diversity out of you, Larry. It seems as if everything you say somehow revolves around one win in an otherwise unsuccessful season. Let’s try something new.

  6. 6 Larry Eustachy

Mediocrity? Since the Iowa season last year was so superior. 7-5 with a loss to Northwestern, beating one ranked team all year. That is impressive. I hate arguing with uneducated Hawk fans, it’s not even fair. COLLEGE! Ever heard of it?

  7. 7 Stereotypical Hawk Fan

Larry shut up. You clowns lost to baylor. haha. and the big twelve north sucks. (even though they had a winning record in bowl games) The big ten is the greatest conference of all time. (losing record in bowl games) And the clowns think that their one win over iowa makes them better than us, even though you dumbass clowns dont realize we had a way better season. (same record) And our bowl game was better competition cuz we didnt play in the whogivesashit.net bowl. (TCU ranked higher than Florida) And Larry, quit making fun of us hardcore Hawk fans just cuz we havent attended college. That doesnt make you a fan cuz it’s a public university or something.

  8. 8 Colestal

Unbelievable. Now let’s sort this out, one at a time:
    1. A loss to bowl eligible Northwestern, on the road, is most definitely disappointing, but it’s nowhere near losing to Baylor at home.
    2. You beat two ranked teams all year. One being us, two being Colorado, at home, in the midst of a landslide. They proved to everyone why they shouldn’t have been ranked as the rest of the season unfolded.
    3. Where does this uneducated bit come from? I go to college just like you do. Frankly, I’m astonished that someone from ISU can even make a semi-decent (although repetitive) arugment. The rest of the Cyclone fans we’ve seen here have been remarkably uneducated.
    4. The Big 12 North isn’t very good. Colorado and ISU lost their bowl games. Baylor didn’t make one. Kansas beat Houston, a real powerhouse. Nebraska beat Michigan in a game that may have been the worst display of officiating ever in a college football game. The division is mediocre at best.
    5. The Big Ten was the only conference with two BCS teams. Both of them won. The rest of the conference didn’t pull their weight so well, but it’s hard to argue against two BCS wins.
    6. Seriously, was that TCU and Florida thing a joke? There’s really no way to prove this one, but I have a hard time seeing a team that squeaked by ISU hanging with Florida, especially the way they were playing at the end of the year.
    7. We’ve been over the enrollment thing already. It’s probably time to give that one up.
    8. You can quit posting under two different nicknames. Personally, I’d quit using the Larry one. He’s an embarassment like almost everything else that’s ever come out of Iowa State, via graduation or termination.

  9. 9 ZoundBrigade

Is there a fucking echo in here? Yea, I said mediocrity shit for brains. Lets look here, um… Iowa in the past 4 years - 4 January bowl games, 2 Big Ten titles. Talk to me when you dont blow titles to Colorado, losers. And stereotype, you fuktard, you are actually try to say - by looking at ONE year in bowl game records ?what? - that the big 12 north is better than The Big 10?? HAHAHAHA Ok, isu, Colorado, Nebraska, Missouri…. Yea, real comparable to schools with the trophies, the players sent to the NFL, and history such as Michigan, Ohio State, Penn State, Wisconsin, and of course da Hawks - yea Nile Kinnick, won the Heisman - Jack Trice….died. Oh, and your “way better season” of 7-5 is a dissapointment for us. See, our good seasons include going to the Orange, Outback (one year leap frogging Michigan mind you!) and Capital One bowl, playing perennial powerhouses like USC, LSU, Florida. Not playing Boise State on some mutant field, Miami - uh, of Ohio, and TCU - which you think is better than Florida cause of the rankings, HAHA. Why not look at what the programs have done and will continue to do, dumbass. Wow, look at that list of bowl game opponents. The BCS really puts you guys in your class dont they? That and the fact that you choke at the end of every year and never win a conference title = MEDIOCRITY. AND, this is the kicker, an ISU guy trying to play the educated card. Let me inform you cyclowns on some common knowledge: No one goes to schools with ’state’ at the end of them for an education. You go to ’state’ schools cause you couldnt get into the ‘the’ school in your state. Unless your an athlete going to Penn State, Ohio State, or LSU. And for the record (I cant believe I actually have to address this), I AM a student at THE University of Iowa. lol, if you clowns only knew…

    Zound,

There are a couple of comments to make about your post.

    1. When you spout in an unrelenting rage, it damages your argument and shows that you may be incapable of having an intelligent discussion.
    2. You need to formulate your thoughts in a complete manor. Punctuation will help you accomplish this task. There are 17 single standing periods in your post, most of them being of place.
    3. Using Jack Trice as an argument will lead down a road not many wish to travel. They are not comparable as athletes, but share a resounding fuel for life and accomplishment. Comparing the two only shows an ignorance of history.
    4. There is no need to attack anything but the athletic programs at Iowa State. Students who choose a university usually do so based on the merit of their respective programs, and the athletic prowess of the school is not an indicator of future success by graduates of that school (see: Yale, Harvard, Drake etc.) The other problem with that argument is you refute yourself by providing examples of schools with “State” in the name that students should attend with no reason for refutation.
    5. You are a University of Iowa student; please hold yourself to a higher standard of expression. When you post drivel, it reflects on the attitudes and characteristics of the entire University you claim to represent. If you would like an example of the proper way to post, please refer to any of Cole’s posts.

If you follow those suggestions, you will become a better example of the University of Iowa as well as match wits with the best of Iowa State fans.

  11. 11 iowaengineer

Yes Legal hawk, thats all true, but you know, sometimes when you got an itch on your back and you try everything to get at that itch, and you can’t get to it, well, you start to lose your temper. Iowa State is an itch upon hawkeye fans. It starts off annoying then it builds until you can’t stand it. I applaud zound for his comments because… HE and Everybody in this forum, LOVES being a HAWKEYE(except larry).

  12. 12 iowaengineer

Oh and Larry, just remember that the next game is in OUR HOUSE! And we protect OUR HOUSE at all costs.

  13. 13 Larry Eustachy

Wow. I got a couple intelligent reponses. Thank you Cole and LegalHawk. I don’t hate the Hawkeyes but it’s hard not to when I hear comments such as Zound’s, etc. Baylor and the Big 12 North have nothing to do with the University of Iowa so give it a rest. That is why I hate using arguments such as in the above Stereotypical Hawk Fan post. Talk about the Cy-Hawk series and say how the Hawks have won twice as many in history, etc. That doesn’t bother me cuz it’s true and relevant for both schools. Bringing up Baylor, Kansas, and the North is just an easy way out in hiding the fact that ISU won the last meeting.

  14. 14 Larry Eustachy

And by the way, Zound, the argument about attending a “State University” is possibly the dumbest thing I’ve ever heard. Your fellow Hawk fans should be proud.

  15. 15 Larry Eustachy
  16. 16 Colestal

The argument about attending a “State University” is about prestige more than anything. It refers to a Jim Rome line a few years ago about how most “State” schools are less prestigious than their “University of _____” or “_____ University” counterparts. Prestige is a hard thing to argue because it’s so subjective, but I think it’s safe to say that the majority of “State” schools aren’t as highly regarded. Also, it probably has more meaning in regards to academics more so than athletics. This might merit a post when I’ve got more time, but Zound’s point needs to be clarified.

  17. 17 Oskee-wow-wow

Looks like Bob the Joke is taking a big step up. You have to wonder what the hell Stanford is thinking … can’t they see the mess he is leaving behind that he is primarily responsible for?

  18. 18 northiowan

Not a total mess but there is some stuff to clean up. To clarify early post Nile Kinnick died in a routine plane crash in the carribean. But he was the hiesman trophy winner. Jack trice was the first isu black athlete to die. Now when they say first i dont know if they mean more black athletes have died or what. But he died when he was playin against the u of minnesota. ISU has gone a great lengths to name a stadium after a guy who died on the field. I think that he deseves a place of honor but not a whole field. They dont have anybody wothy to name a field after.

  19. 19 keosahawkeye

Nice work Hawkize. This puts you up there in the same class as some of the big boys like theonion.com.

  20. 20 ZoundBrigade

Ok, so I went a bit overboard with the curses and swears. And yes, grammar in that post wasn’t the best. But allow me to retort.

LegalHawk, I am more than capable of having an intelligent argument. I guess my thinking at the time was to fight fire with fire - I wasnt getting a whole lot of intelligence from the other side! At a certain point I say the hell with it, you want to talk shit then so will I.

The Jack Trice comment was made in jest. If you have been to this site for awhile, you know about the article Andyram posted about comparing Kinnick to Trice. Yea its cruel and comparing is always a slippery slope, but guess what? ITS A JOKE! I dont have any personal vendetta to disgrace the memory of Jack Trice. The only thing I know about Trice is that he sustained injuries in a football game that proved fatal. Sad and unfortunate, yes. But if mocking him will get a rise out of state fans, then I’ll do it. If state fans didnt make it so damn obvious it pissed them off then we wouldnt do it.

The same thing goes for the ’state’ comment. Colestal is right, my comments were spun off a Jim Rome rant a few years ago about how schools with state in the name are usually second rate. Again, ITS A JOKE! And the attack on Iowa State University itself was prompted only by Larry’s comment about ‘hawk fans don’t attend college’. Like I said before, most of my comments were in response to remarks made to me or the University of Iowa.

Finally, you have no right to judge me on one post made on a blog site that was made in response to someone that was picking an argument. This is a place to rant and rave as Hawkeye fans see fit. If ISU fans want to come in here and talk shit, then they better be ready to get a few colorful responses. So dont give me this “proper way to post” or “set a better example for the university I claim to represent” garbage. If you knew me, you would know that I set a more than acceptable example for the University of Iowa. That goes for my personal and professional life. If I want to let loose and talk some shit and have fun doing it, I have that right and this is the place to do it.

God has a plan for everything and the fool that puts things on the internet about other people and do not know what the hell he are she is talking about has a problem. Get a life and talk about your own family, if there is anyhing to talk about. ISU FAN!

  24. 24 enoughhawk

Let’s get back to the special report: Stevie Hicks’ folks live in a cardboard box. Isn’t it rude for them to leave Berryman’s folks under a bridge?

  25. 25 Anonymous

If ISU sucks so bad why spend so much time bashing them? Maybe U feel threatened?
