And that is why they are called THE Ohio State University. On Saturday night the Buckeyes showed the country, yet again, why they are the consensus number one team in the country. The Bucks straight up beat the Hawkeyes in every phase of the game. But I’m not taking a knock against the Hawkeyes. Nor was I in my “Know Thy Enemy” post. I’m simply acknowledging the fact that Ohio State, this year, is really fucking good. More players then not on that offense are going to be playing in the NFL (for you art majors, that means six or more of the eleven on the field). They outmatched us in every phase of the game, they didn’t make mistakes, the Hawks made a lot of mistakes, and we didn’t bring our A game. This year, Ohio State is just a better team than us. It’s as simple as that.

And that leads me into my main point. Despite the shellacking the team took, my head was up when I left Kinnick Stadium Saturday night. I wore my gold proudly and I walked home with my head up, knowing that we were beaten by a superior foe today but that there are still 7 games left in the season and the Hawks best football is still to come. I say this because I saw a handful of Hawkeye “fans” in the student section (where I was sitting), both during the game and when the game was over, really talk shit and it pissed me off. I heard crap like, “Bench Tate” “We suck” “We just sent our program back five years” etc. etc. lfkjweowfjsl;km vkl;dvmjpijrgrjemjm!!!!!!! Way to be the loyal fan base and jump ship when we lose to a team that we weren’t supposed to beat. I’m surprised we didn’t lose you after Ferentz’s first two years. If you want perpetual spring time, got be a Trojan or a Buckeye. Either way, get the hell out of our student section and move to France so you can be with the rest of the pussies on the planet. You know what really chaps my ass? You know that these were the same assholes that were saying all week leading up to the game that the Hawkeyes would win because God willed it so. Let me reiterate, I am NOT talking down the team or fans that thought we would win. I’m venting my frustration at these dickheads that puff their chest out all week and say they are Hawk fans, then when we lose to a great team, and all of a sudden the Hawkeyes suck.

I also want to put the true Hawkeye fan/most Hawkeye fans, who may be down on his luck because of the game but still stayed till the very end and walked home with his head up, at ease. (1) We made it out of September 4-1. For the Hawkeyes, 4-1 is about the best you can hope for in September. For whatever reason, we start slow but we always finish strong. (2) There are 7 games left, 3 on the road and 4 at home. With the best football still to come, who knows what can happen. Our worst is behind us. (3) Ohio State is going to the National Championship game. We got beat by them, move on. We got demolished by an ASU team that wasn’t nearly as good as the Buckeyes and we still went to the Capital One Bowl. Learn from the OSU game, but don’t dwell on it

Next week is a new week Hawkeye fans. Show up on Saturday and be just as loud for Purdue as you were for Ohio State.
